It is a fine body of work and will take a bit of time to work through. Just posting this so you know I've been past for a quick look at this stage.
ReplyDeleteSince there are 9, I will say which ones I like the least. The boy down the drain and the tip toe. The boy needs to go faster and the tip toe looks spidery. I hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteHi Elle. I think having the clips in their own individual blog posts may have been better. I can imagine this format is a bit overwhelming for animators to cope with to provide comments. Too much input is like giving an animator too much chocolate. If you do that, they start believing in Clinker Gods.
ReplyDeleteThat being said. I'm going to take them on in small chunks and see what I can suggest. Hopefully your peers will attempt to do the same.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great bunch of work. And just by animating and producing, I can see your positive development in animation skills.
The mother and the baby have a nice sway. It is important not to have any sudden "corners or edges" in that animated movement.
ReplyDeleteIt will contrast nicely with the single take and sudden movement in the clip that follows.
In terms of this sequence, the action may be a bit too broad. We need to feel the mother is protective and not warming up to toss the baby in a new world record attempt.
To see if you can get greater clarity for that action, consider toning down the extreme poses so that the spacing of the swing is closer to the cntre of balance of the mother. Make a playblast and compare it to what you have already. Then make a decision whether the experiment resulted in improved animation clarity.
In the single take/ response to sound action, I feel the head action on the mother needs to be toned down a bit.
ReplyDeleteThe timing is good and snappy, as is the spacing, except the spacing to the top extreme may be too broad, too far, covering too much space on the screen. Bring that extreme lower and see how it looks.
There is also the opportunity for some opposite action with the arms and baby. Currently there is a distracting stutter in the arc of the baby swing. Consider the mother's head movement and then think of the baby and arms moving in an opposite action down and away. Use similar timing but less spacing, so as not to draw the viewer's point of focus from the mother's facial expression.
It is good to keep both the mother's eye sihlouettes in view at the end of the head turn, as that keeps the audience engaged with the character.
Give it a go. Compare it to what you already have and use the better version.
